The iPhone 18 Pro Max combines a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion and an Always-On display, the Apple A20 Pro chip and a 48MP Pro Fusion camera system. Its aluminium unibody design has Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back. It also includes a smaller, redesigned Dynamic Island, the Action button, Camera Control, IP68 splash, water and dust resistance and Apple's largest battery life increase on an iPhone to date.

The Apple A20 Pro chip is built on 2-nanometre process technology. It has a 6-core CPU with two super cores and four efficiency cores, a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, a Dual 16-core Neural Engine and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. A redesigned vapour chamber gives it the highest sustained performance of any iPhone so far, supporting Apple Intelligence, gaming, content creation and demanding professional apps.

The 48MP Pro Fusion camera system introduces a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, adjustable across four settings from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4.0, alongside a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera and a 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera. It provides optical-quality 2x, 4x and 8x Telephoto options, a 16x optical-quality zoom range, digital zoom up to 40x and new Pro controls for aperture, shutter speed and white balance.

Professional video features include 4K Dolby Vision recording up to 120 frames per second, ProRes, ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, the Academy Color Encoding System and genlock support with compatible third-party equipment. Cinematic mode effects can be applied after capture, and Apple Reference Image creates a signed reference copy of photos taken in Reference mode, so you can confirm whether they have been edited.

The front-facing 18MP Center Stage camera supports Center Stage for photos and video calls, ultra-stabilised video and Dual Capture. Connectivity includes USB-C with USB 3 speeds, 5G, and the Apple N1 wireless chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. Fast charging reaches up to 50% in around 15 minutes with a 60W-capable adapter, which is sold separately, and MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging are supported at up to 25W.
